and Marlena Lennon

My name is Sophie Ham, I am 13 years old and I’m in my second year of Sullivan Upper. I have been doing Speech and Drama since I was 4 with Catherine Gardner and it is one of my favourite hobbies.

My name is Erin Williams, I am 13 years old and I go to Sullivan Upper. I take Speech and Drama classes and I am a part of Youth Lyric. I love drama and I hope to have a career based around it.

My name is Meena, I am a 15 year old actor and tennis player. I love acting because I can express myself and not feel judged. I will always love acting and would love to be in a real production one day. I hope to grow as an actor even more and widen my knowledge. It’s a way for me to feel safe and enjoy myself.

My name is Marlena and I am 13 year old aspiring actress. I have loved acting from a young age and I find acting a way to express myself to others and be confident. I hope to become an actress in the future and widen my knowledge.

What is it?

We are looking for duologues that react with energy and electricity to the world right now. These duologues will be digital, and they are an opportunity for emerging young creatives aged 12-18 to showcase their ability to connect and perform across digital platforms.

We encourage actors from different households to use digital platforms such as Zoom or Google Meet to record their duologues. Social distancing must be maintained where necessary.

Our team will select our top finalists, who will have their duologues displayed on our website, as well as being awarded a place on the Bruiser Summer School 2021!

Who Can Enter?

There are two categories: Ages 12-15, and Ages 16-18.

You must ensure your duologue partner is in the same age category as you. We are only accepting submissions from young people aged between 12-18 based in Northern Ireland, so please only apply if you fit these conditions.

How to Enter?

Tickets are £15 per duologue, and you can buy them from our website shop.

We are looking for passionate and creative duologues that demonstrate a clear connection between two actors. React to what is happening for you right now - whether that is best shown through a classic or contemporary play, a comedy or tragedy, or an original piece of writing. All we ask is that the duologue is a max of 5 minutes and that there aren’t any distractions in the background (a plain background is best).

All competitors will receive personalised, constructive feedback from our team. We are committed to the professional development of young people in the arts, and want to provide an opportunity to connect across digital platforms and be creative at a distance.

Entrant places are limited and to make the process fair it is first come, first served.

Dates

Competition Opens: 1st March 2021

Competition Closes: 19th March 2021

Submission Deadline: Once your entry is secured with your ticket, you will have until the 19th March to send us your monologue. But the sooner the better!

We will then announce the winners at the beginning of April!

What if I'm almost in the next age category?

If you are almost 16, use your duologue partner’s age as a guide for which category you will enter. Use the end of March as a deadline - if you and your partner are not both 16 by the end of March, consider entering the 12-15 category.
