Bruiser in China - #ReConnect Festival 2021

Hero Image

We are delighted to announce that our production of Mojo Mickybo by Owen McCafferty has been selected by the British Council to feature in the 2021 UK-China Contemporary Culture Festival: #ReConnect

While travel to and from China is still limited, we’re proud to be representing Northern Irish theatre on an international stage. The #ReConnect festival builds on the British Council’s three-week festival that took place in October 2020, which reached over 11.9 million people in China. This is an exciting opportunity for us to reach new audiences and share Northern Ireland’s unique history and culture way beyond our borders.

Mojo Mickybo shows the friendship between two boys growing up in Belfast during ‘The Troubles’ – a friendship that at first is immune to the sectarian violence taking place around them, but which nonetheless is ultimately destroyed by it. The show is brought to life by two of our finest local actors, Michael Condron and Terence Keeley, who seamlessly slip in and out of multiple roles and imaginary worlds.

The #ReConnect Festival will run 1st-20th September 2021 via WeChat and Weibo.

This production was funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland; Belfast City Council and the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland. The #ReConnect Festival is being delivered by the British Council.
