Our Cast Share Their Favourite '80s Films!

October 1, 2017

Bruiser's next production The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4 is set in the best decade of the twentieth century: the 1980s! The '80s is a decade renowned for its cult cinema, with comforting classic films like Brat Pack crowd pleasers; The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles to fantasy, horror and Sci-Fi greats E.T., The Lost Boys, Aliens, Terminator and Beetlejuice- to name but a few! In light of this great decade of movies, we've asked the cast of Adrian Mole which of the classic films is their favourite. Here's what they chose:

Adam Dougal | Adrian Mole

Adam Dougal who will play the lead role of Adrian Mole in our next production chose the Tom Hanks classic 'Big' as his favourite film of the 1980s. 'Big' is a literal coming of age story that sees a young boy wish that he was a 30 year old man, a wish that comes true. The manchild goes to New York City and gets a job in a toy company and has to deal with all the trials and tribulations that comes with being an adult and growing up, making him yearn for his former life as a boy.

Orla Mullan | Pauline Mole

Orla Mullan will play the role of Adrian's mother Pauline. Orla's favourite '80s film is 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'. Ferris Bueller (played by Matthew Broderick) is an ace at ditching school and getting away with it. Keen to make one last big play before he graduates, Ferris calls in sick, "borrows" a Ferrari, and embarks on a one-day journey through the streets of Chicago, all the while his principal is determined to catch him out!

Gerard McCabe| George Mole

Gerard McCabe will play Adrian's father and he has chosen 'The Goonies' as his favourite movie of the decade. 'The Goonies' sees a quirky group of kids go on a treasure hunt, with the hope of finding enough gold to save their houses from being demolished. Did someone say Truffle Shuffle?

Colette Lennon | Pandora, Grandma, Doreen, Mrs. Lucas

Colette Lennon will play a number of supporting characters in The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4 including Adrian's love interest Pandora, Adrian's Grandma and the Mole's neighbour Doreen. Colette's favourite film is the fast paced (88mph) sci-fi classic 'Back to the Future'. 'Back to the Future' sees Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) travel back in time in the DeLorean with the help of eccentric scientist Doc Brown, to ensure that his parents fall in love and he continues to exist.

Keith Lynch | Bert, Nigel, Mr Lucas

Keith Lynch will also play multiple supporting roles in Adrian Mole including Adrian's elderly friend Bert Baxter, his best friend Nigel and his neighbour Mr Lucas. Speaking of Mr Lucas, Keith's favourite 80s' film is 'Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back'. 'Star Wars' should need no introduction, but for those (freaks) who haven't seen it, it's an intergalactic epic tale in which good attempts to triumph over the 'Dark Side'.
