The 1980s. A decade of big hair, questionable fashion sense and dubious politicians. Despite all this, one thing the Eighties gave us was ten years of epic tunes! From Madonna to Prince, Queen to Michael Jackson, Bonnie Tyler to Bon Jovi, the eighties had it all.
Bruiser’s next production will be The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾. It is the story of a teenage boy growing up in the 1980s, trying to deal with adolescent issues such as quarreling parents, falling in love, the stress of school work and being bullied. (Not that we need one but) Bruiser have decided to use the setting of the play to celebrate this glorious decade by counting down our favourite 50 songs from the 1980s!
A word to the wise, if you are thinking of compiling a similar list- don’t! It is so difficult! There are so many great artists and great songs to choose from. While I would like to say that this task opened a healthy discussion in our office, that would be a lie. We rowed continuously about which songs should be included in the Top 50, and we almost had a brawl when deciding which song should sit atop of the list. Nevertheless, we did decide on an order and here it is!
We start the countdown with the songs 50-41, and will reveal the rest each day throughout the rest of the week.
41. Bonnie Tyler- Holding Out For A Hero
42. Whitesnake- Here I Go Again
43. Michael Jackson- Beat It
44. Berlin- Take My Breath Away
45. Tears For Fears- Everybody Wants to Rule The World
46. Cameo- Word Up
47. Tina Turner- What's Love Got To Do With It
48. Dolly Parton- 9 to 5
49. Bananarama- Cruel Summer
50. Paula Abdul- Straight Up
We hope you like our list, so far. Check back tomorrow for the next ten songs in our countdown and in the meantime, let us know which song is your favourite from the Eighties.
